A lot of people have been asking me what the first step in home buying is lately, so I thought I would answer it today for all of you. If you have been considering making the leap to homeownership, listen up.
Many people think the first step is to start looking at homes online, but it’s not. You can choose to start with that step, but it’s only going to hurt you in the long run. In reality, the first step to home buying is visiting with a mortgage lender. Unless you’re buying a home in cash, you’ll need financing. The lender needs to look at your complete financial picture to come up with what they are comfortable lending to you and at what rate. Until you know that information, searching for homes is like walking blind on a tightrope.
